For Zoe Yanovsky, the event holds deep meaning. “It feels really good to be helping in some small way,” she shares. “We’re not unloading trucks or packaging food, but we see the difference each year. As a parent, it means so much to know kids in Kingston get what they need.” Zoe notes that the breakfast is a “signature event at the start of the holiday season,” bringing friends and long-time supporters together. “There are supporters that come year after year. People really care,” she says.
The fundraiser’s format is simple and effective, with Chez Piggy hosting dine-in and Pan Chancho offering takeout. Zoe recalls, “Last year, we had close to 300 people here for breakfast, and huge numbers in takeout. Some schools show up for orders of 26 breakfasts at once. It’s always busy, and that’s what makes it great.”
Andy Mills, Executive Director of The Food Sharing Project, emphasizes how vital the endowment fund has become. “This permanent fund keeps growing and gives us reliable annual funding,” Andy explains. “It helps us plan ahead, and that is visionary. We know government grants can fluctuate, so having steady support means we can keep providing healthy meals to students.”
Every dollar raised at the breakfast goes to support The Food Sharing Project, helping more kids across Kingston and area. “It’s really about building community and looking out for each other,” Andy concludes.
