The Community Foundation for Kingston & Area has identifed eight grantmaking sectors under which all of our grants fall. Each sector directly impacts the quality of life in our community.

Grants from the Foundation positively affect our community both directly and indirectly:

Directly: Grants are awarded to local projects that have a direct impact on the people of our community.
Indirectly: Grants enable organizations to become better equipped to initiate and sustain projects that will have a positive impact.

Successful programs will be characterized by the following traits:

  • they build on existing community strengths and assets
  • they involve meaningful partnerships
  • they respond to real and clearly identified local needs
  • they use resources efficiently and effectively
  • they strive for a significant and lasting impact
  • they benefit a wide audience
  • they show innovation, creativity, proactive thinking, and a degree of risk
